NEWS & EVENTS
Well, that's summer over and we're well into autumn following a series of well attended gigs and performances. The highlight was the jubilee weekend where we headlined on the 'Jubilee Square' on the Stray and we were interviewed by Radio York in a bus shelter!
Christmas beckons already with nine bookings for December so far. Four are with our friends Dancing for Well-Being where we are supporting their Christmas parties in the Harrogate district and we are also booked for the Harrogate and Knaresborough Christmas Markets.
One important milestone this year was our collection for St Michael's Hospice – our local charity partner. We started playing in public for the first time for two years in June 2021 at the Harrogate Food Festival. Previously, the COVID regulations and guidelines restricted us to a maximum of six players, but these were relaxed in June 2021. We calculated our collections from that date to June 2022 – a full calendar year – and we cleared just over £3500, which we were delighted to present to Sandra Gilbert, our St Michael's contact on a rather hot day in August.

Steve Bullock, our band leader, Karen Bellerby, HSTU Chair, and Neal Carr, our treasurer presented the cheque of £3500 to Sandra at Saint Michael's head office. Karen commented 'we are delighted to be supporting the excellent work of Saint Michael's, our chosen charity – and it's a 'win win', we love to play and the collections and donations support such a worthwhile local cause.'
Saint Michael's Chief Executive, Tony Collins, added 'We are extremely grateful to the Spa Town Ukes for their remarkable fundraising support this year. The money they have raised will make a big difference to our work vital supporting local families living with terminal illness and bereavement.'
Bookings are already coming in for next year, the most significant being the 120th anniversary of Harrogate Royal Hall where we have been invited to play at the celebration concert in May – so we'll be on the stage at the Royal Hall where previous acts have included The Beatles and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain!
Roll on 2023!
