NEWS & EVENTS
So summer's here and the band is gearing up for a very busy August and September. So far this year we have 50+ bookings so there are weeks when the band is working flat out to keep up with our increasingly busy schedule.
Highlights from the year so far are:
Yes, it was the end of last year but we are still over the moon at our appearance at Ripon Cathedral supporting the Henshaw's Christmas Concert (Henshaw's is a local charity based in Knaresborough).
In March, we supported the national 'Let's Dance' initiative supported by Angela Ripon, organised by our old friends 'Dancing for Well Being' at The Pavilions Harrogate.
In April we featured at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show and supported Henshaw's Beer Festival. We also started the monthly St Michael's Hospice collection event at the Victoria Centre, Harrogate.
In May we were at Glampfest – a 3 day camping festival held in Knaresborough and we played at two VE Day events Glampfest fulfilled one of our ambitions – to play at a music festival beginning with 'G' – guess the rest!
In June, July and August we played four concerts as part of the North Yorkshire Council 'Summer Concerts Series' – held in Valley Gardens, Harrogate, Knaresborough Castle, Ripon Spa Gardens and Pateley Bridge. August will see us back at the Valley Gardens bandstand for the newly-formed Harrogate Town Council VJ Day celebrations.
And coming soon...
In late August and September we are playing at the Harrogate Food Festival in Ripley, Harrogate Autumn Flower Festival and the Newby Hall Apple Day celebrations.
October and November are always very slow – although we do have eight concerts booked – but then we have the busy month of December when the Hawaiian shirts are swapped for our Santa gear – a repeated highlight will be our return match at Ripon Cathedral.
Breaking news for 2026 – we have been invited to play at the International Beatles' Week in August, held at Strawberry Fields (yes, there really is one!) in Liverpool – a childhood haunt of John Lennon – it doesn't get much better!
Fundraising continues with impressive results. In the last financial year we raised £7000 for our charity partner, St Michael's Hospice - the photo shows Steve (our band leader) and Dave (Spa Town Ukes founder and our compere) presenting the cheque to Sandra, our contact at St Michael's - and we are on target to beat that this year. Since 2023, which was the fist 'proper' collecting year following the COVID restrictions we have raised £17,800 – every little helps...
